Easy and Delicious Bananas Foster Oatmeal, no need to flambé!

One of my best friends, Teresa and I, go to this little café in Southlake, Texas, during the fall and winter months to get Bananas Foster Oatmeal. It is so indulgent and delicious I had to find a way to make it home. What I realized, this oatmeal is so dang easy. So easy.

The ingredients can also be used to make banana foster French toast, which is to die for. Bananas Foster pancakes, which I suggest and highly recommend this little gadget for perfectly round, fluffy pancakes with little clean-up. Or you can top the bananas foster ingredients top on ice cream, yum. This is not diet oatmeal. This breakfast is a cold day; cuddle up in pajamas, kind of oatmeal. Best part? No need to flambé the bananas or use rum!!

Bananas Foster Oatmeal Ingredients

  • Extra creamy whipped cream
  • Caramel sauce (I prefer Torani, it is perfect for this and is real caramel)
  • Bananas (one per bowl, however I add more as I am eating)
  • Candied Pecans or Walnuts (Trader Joes preferred, these make or break your banana foster)
  • Oatmeal, however you like to prepare it. Quick oats or stovetop.
  • Splenda, sweetener, sugar of your choice for oatmeal, if needed.

How to Make the Bananas Foster Oatmeal–So Easy

Cook your oatmeal according to the package. You can use quick oats, rolled oats, or steel oats. Whatever you like best. I use rolled oats on the stove or in a tiny crockpot; you can find a budget-friendly one here.  It takes a little longer, you must keep an eye on it, but it makes a more of a “restaurant’ oatmeal. If you have a way to make perfect restaurant oatmeal, please send it to me; I have never perfected it.

Top oatmeal with sliced bananas, drizzle caramel sauce, top with candied pecans. I prefer and use Trader Joes Candied Pecans; these pecans make this banana foster recipe a hit), dollop fresh whipped cream, and then drizzle with caramel again. Indulgent.  I keep all the ingredients next to me while eating, adding more as I go!

There is no need to flambé the bananas, and it tastes just like your favorite restaurant dessert. If you want, try warming some of the caramel sauce, add caramel sauce, and all other toppings on creamy vanilla ice cream. It is simply delicious.
